At the Beaurepaire-Beaconsfield Historical Society on Thursday, May 15, at 7:30 p.m., Derek Grout will present his new book, RMS Empress of Ireland, Pride of the Canadian Pacific’s Atlantic Fleet.
The ill-fated liner Empress of Ireland sank in the Gulf of St Lawrence, in front of Pointe-au-Père near Rimouski, Quebec, in a collision 100 years ago on May 29, 1914.
Copies of Mr. Grout’s book will be available for $35. (Good idea for a Father’s Day gift.)
The lecture will be in English followed by a bilingual question period. It will take place at Centennial Hall, 288 Beaconsfield Blvd, Beaconsfield. For information: 514-695-2502 or http://shbbhs.ca/.
If you want to spend more money for Father’s Day, the Canadian Mint has produced a $20 Empress of Ireland silver coin for a $109.95.
