HBC Heritage website worth a visit

Perhaps I have spent too much time shopping at Hudson’s Bay and not enough time online. I think that because until now I was unaware of the HBC Heritage website. It is filled with information about the world’s oldest continuously operating trading company. Browse the website to learn about the Hudson’s Bay Company’s history from transportation to places and people. The Learning Centre, created for students and teachers, is also worth a visit.

Fact du jour: The Hudson’s Bay Company was founded May 2, 1670.

To find the HBC archives and other collections, you will need to look elsewhere. In 1994, HBC donated the Hudson’s Bay Company Archives to the Provincial Archives of Manitoba and the Hudson’s Bay Company Museum Collection to the Manitoba Museum. Together, the two collections were valued at approximately $68 million.

  1. When we were in Winnipeg last fall, we visited the Hudson’s Bay Company Gallery at the Manitoba Museum. It brings together an outstanding collection of historical artifacts, and I highly recommend a visit to anyone visiting that city.
